1. About NVOX
NVOX is building a clinician integrated platform designed to make comprehensive ADHD assessment more accessible, efficient, and clinically meaningful.
Our pediatric assessment platform supports families, licensed psychologists, cognitive and behavioral testing, clinical evidence review, and report generation within a single workflow.
We handle sensitive clinical and personal information, so security, privacy, reliability, and responsible data handling are part of every engineering decision.
Comprehensive ADHD assessment remains slow, expensive, and difficult to access for many families. We are building technology intended to change that.
2. The Role
We are looking for an exceptionally versatile, hands on Lead Software Engineer who can move from a Terraform module to a React component, a database migration, or an architecture decision in the same day, and knows which one the situation actually requires.
You will work closely with the CEO on product direction, priorities, requirements, and execution, while collaborating directly with the CTO and other developers across the existing engineering environment.
This is not a role for someone seeking a narrow technical lane. It is for an experienced engineer who can understand the system as a whole and take ownership of complex problems across backend, frontend, infrastructure, databases, architecture, and production operations.
Most of the role is hands on engineering. You will own technical initiatives from initial problem definition through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production verification.
When required, you will also help scope work, coordinate developers, review pull requests, mentor team members, and maintain a high engineering standard. Leadership and management experience are significant advantages, but this is not a full time management position.
3. What You Will Own
1.
At least eight years of professional experience building and operating production software.
2.
Design and maintain backend services using Python, FastAPI, async SQLAlchemy, and clear repository and service layer patterns.
3.
Build frontend functionality using React and TypeScript, including integration across interfaces, APIs, authentication, and data.
4.
Own AWS infrastructure and delivery tooling through Terraform and GitHub Actions.
5.
Manage controlled database migrations, testing, deployment sequencing, environment consistency, rollout plans, and rollback procedures.
6.
Make and document architecture decisions involving service boundaries, data ownership, synchronous and asynchronous workflows, systems of record, integrations, and safe failure behavior.
7.
Diagnose and resolve problems involving data consistency, dual writes, infrastructure drift, deployment ordering, external services, and production behavior.
8.
Build security and reliability into the definition of done through secrets management, least privilege access, authenticated service boundaries, safe logging practices, automated checks, and production safeguards.
9.
Write clear, maintainable code and documentation that other engineers can understand and safely extend.
4. How We Work
We use AI coding agents and modern development automation as part of our daily engineering workflow.
You should know how to use these tools to accelerate code analysis, implementation, testing, refactoring, debugging, and repetitive engineering work, while independently reviewing every meaningful change and retaining full responsibility for production outcomes.
Generated code must be understood, reviewed, tested, and verified. A successful build or green test suite does not replace engineering judgment.
You will help strengthen the tests, CI controls, observability, environment checks, and rollout safeguards that allow the team to move quickly without compromising reliability.
Our codebase expects a disciplined testing culture, with tests written early for meaningful changes and critical success and failure paths covered before release.
5. Must Have Qualifications
1.
At least eight years of professional experience building and operating production software.
2.
Real depth in at least two of backend engineering, frontend engineering, and cloud infrastructure or DevOps, with strong working competence across the others.
3.
Strong Python experience, including modern asynchronous web services.
4.
Strong React and TypeScript experience, with the ability to own a feature on both sides of the API.
5.
Hands on experience provisioning and changing production AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
6.
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including testing, database migrations, and production deployments.
7.
Strong relational database skills, including schema design, migrations, query behavior, and data integrity failure modes.
8.
Sound architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate tradeoffs without unnecessary complexity.
9.
High autonomy and the ability to turn an ambiguous problem into a clear plan and a working, verified result.
10.
Clear written communication across code, commits, pull requests, design documents, and technical documentation.
6. Strong Advantages
1.
Experience leading, mentoring, coordinating, or reviewing the work of other developers.
2.
Previous experience as a Lead, Staff, Principal, Founding, or early stage engineer.
3.
Experience in healthcare, regulated technology, or another security sensitive environment.
4.
Experience building with or integrating LLMs in production, including provider selection, evaluation, latency, cost, reliability, and data protection.
5.
Deep experience with HubSpot or comparable CRM integrations.
6.
Experience with Stripe, Cognito, OAuth, OIDC, SAML, calendar systems, scheduling platforms, or other complex external integrations.
7.
Strong experience with observability, incident prevention, infrastructure security, and cloud cost optimization.
